Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring covers a wider range of products than most people realize. What used to mean a single sheet of plain floor covering now includes waterproof luxury vinyl tile, cushioned sheet vinyl with realistic stone and wood looks, and plank-format vinyl that rivals real hardwood. At Carpet Barn, we carry the full range of vinyl flooring types at our New Cumberland showroom and have been helping Central PA homeowners find the right vinyl product since 1974.

If you have been using the word linoleum to describe what you want, you are probably looking for sheet vinyl. True linoleum is a different material and far less common today. We carry sheet vinyl in stock and will walk you through the options in plain language.

Vinyl Flooring Types We Carry

Vinyl flooring is not one product. It is a category that includes several distinct formats, each with different installation methods, looks, and performance characteristics. Here is what we carry and how each one works:

Sheet Vinyl

Sold in wide rolls and installed in one or two continuous pieces. Fewer seams means fewer places for moisture to get underneath. A practical, budget-friendly choice for bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms. Available in tile-look, wood-grain, and solid styles.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

Individual tiles that replicate the look of ceramic, stone, or porcelain. 100% waterproof with a realistic surface texture. Installs as a floating floor or glue-down depending on the product. A popular choice for bathroom floors and kitchen renovations.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)

Plank-format vinyl that replicates hardwood. Our most popular vinyl product. Waterproof, scratch-resistant, and available in a wide range of wood-grain looks. See our dedicated LVP page for full specs and brand options.

Waterproof Vinyl

A broad category that includes LVP and LVT products with a fully waterproof core. The right choice for any room that sees regular moisture. Handles spills, humidity, and pet accidents without damage to the floor.

Scotchguard-Protected Sheet Vinyl

Select sheet vinyl products include a Scotchguard surface treatment applied at the factory. Adds protection against stains, scuffs, and surface wear. A good option for kitchens and high-traffic family spaces.

Cushioned Sheet Vinyl

Sheet vinyl with a built-in foam or felt backing for added underfoot comfort. Makes a noticeable difference in kitchens and laundry rooms where you stand for long stretches. The Congoleum Airstep line is a strong example.

Sheet Vinyl vs. LVP: Which One Is Right for You?

Both are vinyl products. Both are waterproof. Customers often wonder which one makes more sense for their project. Here is a straightforward comparison:

Where Vinyl Flooring Works Best

Vinyl is one of the most practical flooring materials available. It works in rooms where other flooring types tend to fail. Here is where it performs best:

Bathrooms

Sheet vinyl is a top choice for bathroom floors. Fewer seams than tile or LVP, comfortable on bare feet, easy to clean, and genuinely waterproof from edge to edge.

Kitchens

Kitchen floors take daily abuse. Vinyl handles spills, dropped items, and heavy foot traffic without complaint. A tile-look or wood-grain style in a quality product looks sharp and cleans up fast.

Laundry Rooms

Laundry rooms see water, detergent spills, and the occasional flooded washer. Vinyl does not care. Easy to mop, no warping, no damage from wet boots.

Basements

Vinyl goes directly over concrete subfloors with proper prep. Handles below-grade moisture better than wood or carpet. A practical finishing choice for finished basements.

Mudrooms

High traffic, wet boots, mud, and pets. Vinyl handles it all without showing wear as quickly as softer flooring types. Choose a darker grout-line color for the tile-look styles to keep it looking clean.

Rental Properties

Durable, easy to clean between tenants, and affordable to replace when it eventually reaches the end of its life. Vinyl is a smart investment for landlords.

In-Stock Vinyl at Our New Cumberland Showroom

We keep an in-stock selection of sheet vinyl and LVT at our New Cumberland showroom. Walk in and see real product on the floor. Our most popular Mannington, Congoleum Airstep, IFC, and Conestoga styles are available for quick turnaround without waiting on a special order.

For styles or specifications outside our in-stock selection, we can place a special order through our manufacturer network. Ask us about lead times when you stop in.

Looking for LVP Specifically?

Luxury vinyl plank is technically a type of vinyl flooring, but it has enough unique features, including wear layer specs, WPC vs. SPC core options, AC ratings, and a wide range of brand choices, that we carry it on its own dedicated product page. If you are specifically looking for LVP in a hardwood plank format, visit our LVP page for a full breakdown.

Professional Vinyl Flooring Installation Available

Every vinyl product we carry can be professionally installed by our team.
