LVP Flooring Installation
Luxury vinyl plank is the most popular flooring choice in homes across Central PA right now, and it is easy to see why. It looks like real wood, feels great underfoot, handles moisture without warping, and costs a fraction of what hardwood runs. At Carpet Barn, we carry a full in-stock selection of LVP and install it throughout the region. Our team has been doing this since 1974, and we know what good LVP installation looks like.
Whether you are replacing carpet, tile, or old vinyl, LVP is a durable upgrade that works in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and living areas. We stock multiple brands, wear layer options, and core constructions at our New Cumberland showroom. Come in and see the options in person, or call us and we will walk you through what makes sense for your project.
Our LVP Installation Process
We take care of the full process from start to finish. Here is how a typical LVP installation works with Carpet Barn:
Step 1: Free Estimate
We start with a free, no-pressure estimate. You can visit our showroom to see LVP samples in person and talk through your options, or we can come to you. We measure the space, assess the subfloor, and give you a written quote before we book anything.
Step 2: Subfloor Assessment
A good LVP installation starts with a flat, clean subfloor. Before we lay a single plank, we check the existing floor for levelness and address any issues. We patch subfloor irregularities and repair squeaks when needed.
Step 3: Material Selection and Ordering
Once you approve the estimate, we confirm your product selection. If we have it in stock, we can often move quickly. We place special orders and track them through our manufacturer network.
Step 4: Installation
Our installers handle the full job. That includes moving furniture, removing existing flooring when needed, and installing your new LVP using the click-lock floating method. We cut around obstacles and install all trim and transitions. Vinyl base, quarter round, shoe molding, and metal transitions are all in stock at our showroom.
Step 5: Final Walkthrough
When the installation is complete, we walk through the finished space with you. Every Carpet Barn installation comes with a 1-year workmanship warranty. If you see anything that does not look right, we will come back and fix it.
What is LVP Flooring?
LVP stands for luxury vinyl plank. LVP is a multi-layer synthetic product that replicates the look of hardwood or stone while offering performance characteristics that natural materials cannot match. Each plank is made up of several layers that work together to create a floor that is waterproof, scratch resistant, and comfortable to walk on.
You may have heard it called click flooring, waterproof flooring, floating floor, Pergo, or even laminate. These terms get used interchangeably, and customers often come in asking for one thing when they mean another. Our staff will help you sort through the terminology and find exactly what you are looking for.
LVP vs. LVT: What Is the Difference?
LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) comes in plank format and mimics the look of hardwood flooring. LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) comes in square or rectangular tile format and replicates the look of stone or ceramic tile. Both are 100% waterproof, both install the same way, and both are available at Carpet Barn.
LVP Specs and Features Explained
LVP comes in a range of specs that affect durability, comfort, and price. Here is a plain-language breakdown of the most important ones:
Wear Layer
The wear layer is the clear protective coating on top of the plank. It determines how well the floor stands up to scratches, scuffs, and daily wear. We carry LVP with 12 mil and 20 mil wear layers. A 12 mil layer works well in bedrooms and lower-traffic spaces. A 20 mil layer is better for kitchens, hallways, and rooms with pets or heavy foot traffic.
Core Construction
WPC (Wood Polymer Composite)
A wood-based core that offers a softer, warmer feel underfoot. Better sound absorption and slightly more comfortable to stand on for long periods. A good choice for living areas and bedrooms.
SPC (Stone Polymer Composite)
A denser, harder core made with stone composite. More rigid and more resistant to temperature fluctuations. A better fit for basements, garages, and spaces with radiant heating.
Commercial Wear Ratings
The AC scale grades LVP on the AC (Abrasion Class) scale, which runs from AC1 to AC5, Most residential installs call for AC3 or AC4. We also carry AC5 rated products for light commercial applications or high-traffic residential spaces like entryways and mudrooms.
Warranties
Most LVP products we carry come with manufacturer warranties ranging from 10 to 25 years. Warranty length varies by product line and wear layer thickness. Ask our team which products carry the coverage that fits your needs.
Why Central PA Homeowners Choose LVP
LVP has replaced carpet and tile as the go-to flooring choice for Central PA homeowners in recent years. These are the reasons we hear most often from customers in our showroom:
100% Waterproof
LVP does not absorb moisture. Spills, pet accidents, and humidity will not damage the planks or cause them to warp. This makes it an ideal choice for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements.
Scratch & Dent Resistant
The wear layer protects against everyday scratches from pets, furniture, and foot traffic. A 20 mil wear layer will hold up under significant daily use without showing wear for years.
Looks Like Real Hardwood
Modern LVP uses high-definition printing and embossed textures to replicate the grain patterns, knots, and color variation of real wood. Most people cannot tell the difference at a glance.
Floats Over Existing Floors
LVP installs as a floating floor using a click-lock system. In many cases it can go directly over existing tile or vinyl without full demolition. This reduces installation time and labor cost.
Comfortable Underfoot
WPC-core LVP has a slight give that makes it warmer and softer than tile or stone. Some products also include an attached underlayment for additional cushion and sound dampening.
Easy to Maintain
LVP does not require waxing, sealing, or special cleaning products. A regular sweep and damp mop is all it takes to keep it looking good for years.
