Carpet Remnants
Not every flooring project calls for a full roll of carpet. Sometimes you need to cover a bedroom, finish a basement, carpet a staircase, or protect a small office without committing to a large purchase. Carpet Barn keeps an in-stock selection of carpet remnants at our New Cumberland showroom at reduced prices. These are quality carpet pieces left over from larger rolls, available in a range of styles, colors, and sizes.
We also offer carpet binding locally, which gives any remnant piece a clean, finished edge. A bound remnant becomes a custom area rug or a tidy stair runner without the cost of buying a purpose-made product. Come in and ask what we have in stock.
What Are Carpet Remnants?
Carpet remnants are pieces cut from the end of a larger carpet roll. When a full roll covers a project, the leftover section becomes a remnant. Remnants come in a wide range of sizes depending on how much carpet was left on the roll when it was cut.
Remnants come from the same quality carpet as full-roll purchases. You get the same fiber types, pile heights, and durability at a lower price per piece. The difference is the price. Remnants sell at a reduced cost because the piece is a fixed size rather than a custom-cut length.
Our remnant inventory changes regularly as we work through current stock. The best way to see what is available is to stop in. If you have a specific size or style in mind, call us and we will let you know whether we have something that fits.
Where Carpet Remnants Work Best
Remnants are a practical solution for a wide range of smaller-scale projects. Here are the most common uses we see from our customers:
Bedroom
One of the most common uses for carpet remnants. Most single bedrooms fall within a size that a remnant can cover without seaming. You get the comfort of new carpet at a fraction of the cost of a full-room broadloom install.
Staircases
A stair runner made from a bound carpet remnant adds comfort, reduces noise, and protects the treads from wear. Our carpet binding service turns a remnant strip into a finished stair runner with clean, bound edges on all sides.
Basements
Basements often have irregular shapes and utility areas that do not justify the cost of a full carpet installation. Remnants let you cover finished areas without overpaying for material that will be cut away.
Home Offices
A carpet remnant under a desk chair or covering a home office floor adds warmth and reduces noise without the expense of a full install. An easy, low-commitment improvement for a room you may reconfigure in the future.
Custom Area Rugs
With our local carpet binding service, any remnant piece can become a finished area rug with clean bound edges. Choose the size, choose the carpet style, and we will bind the edges for a professional result.
Pet Areas
A remnant placed in a pet zone, mudroom drop, or crate area gives your pet a comfortable surface while protecting the floor underneath. Easy to replace when it wears out or needs to be swapped for something fresh.
Carpet Binding: Turn a Remnant into a Custom Rug
Carpet binding wraps a clean, durable edge around the perimeter of a cut carpet piece. Without binding, the edges of a carpet remnant will fray over time. With binding, the piece has a finished, professional look that holds up to regular use.
We offer carpet binding locally at our New Cumberland showroom. Bring in your remnant or buy one from our in-stock selection, and we can bind the edges to the size and shape you need. Common uses include:
- Custom area rugs in any size or shape
- Stair runners with finished edges on all four sides
- Hallway runners cut to a specific length
- Entry mats with a clean, durable border
- Pet bed inserts with a finished perimeter
Ask our team about binding options when you stop in. We will walk you through the process and give you an honest estimate for what it costs.
What to Expect When Shopping for Remnants
Remnant shopping is a little different from shopping for full-roll carpet. Here is what to know before you come in:
- Stock changes frequently. Remnants are one-of-a-kind pieces. What we have today may not be here next week. If you see something that fits your project, it is worth moving on it.
- Sizes vary widely. We carry everything from small accent-sized pieces to larger remnants that can cover a full bedroom. Come in with your room measurements and we will find options that fit.
- Quality is the same as full-roll carpet. Remnants come from the same rolls as our regular carpet inventory. You are getting the same fiber quality, pile weight, and durability at a lower price per piece.
- Binding adds time and a small additional cost. If you need the edges finished, factor in a short turnaround for the binding process. Ask us about current lead times when you stop in.
- Installation is available for remnants too. If you want the remnant installed rather than laid loose or used as a rug, our installation team can handle it. Free estimates are always part of the job.
Full Carpet Selection Also Available
If our current remnant selection does not have what you need, we carry a full in-stock range of carpet in broadloom, Berber, patterned, and pet-friendly styles. We can also special order from our full manufacturer catalog for projects that require specific fibers, weights, or colors.
