Broadloom Carpet

Carpet Weight Guide
Carpet weight, measured in ounces per square yard, gives you a reliable indicator of quality and how well the carpet will hold up over time. We carry options across the full weight spectrum:
50 oz.
A solid entry-level weight. Well-suited for bedrooms and lower-traffic areas where comfort is the priority.
60 oz.
A popular mid-range option. Good balance of softness, durability, and value for most residential rooms.
70 oz.
Heavier and more cushioned underfoot. A strong choice for living rooms and main floor areas that see regular use.
80 oz.
Premium weight carpet. Maximum durability and a plush feel for high-end installs or rooms that need to hold up under heavy traffic.

Carpet Fiber Types
The fiber your carpet is made from determines how it feels underfoot, how long it lasts, and how easy it is to keep clean. Here is a plain-language guide to the fibers we carry:
Nylon
The most durable carpet fiber available. Holds its shape under heavy foot traffic, resists staining, and lasts longer than most other options. A strong choice for living rooms, hallways, and stairs.
SmartStrand / Triexta
Mohawk’s proprietary fiber with built-in, permanent stain protection baked into the fiber itself. It does not wear off over time the way topical treatments do. A good fit for families with kids or pets.
Solution Dyed Polyester
A soft, budget-friendly fiber with strong color retention. Works well in lower-traffic rooms like bedrooms and guest rooms where comfort matters more than durability.
Olefin / Polypropylene
Moisture and mildew resistant. Often used in Berber and loop constructions. A common choice for basements and spaces that see occasional moisture.
Carpet Features Worth Knowing About
Beyond fiber type and weight, there are a few specific features that come up regularly when our customers are shopping for carpet. Here is what they mean and when they matter:
Pet Warranty
Some carpet products include a specific warranty against pet stains and odors. This goes beyond standard stain coverage. If you have pets, ask which products in our showroom carry this coverage.
Scotchguard Protection
A topical stain-resistant treatment applied to the surface of the carpet. Adds protection against everyday spills. Unlike SmartStrand, Scotchguard is a surface treatment and may need reapplication over time.
Solution-Dyed Color
The color goes all the way through the fiber rather than sitting on the surface. Solution-dyed carpet resists fading from sunlight and bleach-based cleaners better than conventionally dyed options.
Smartstrand Silk
A softer, upgraded version of Mohawk’s SmartStrand fiber. Combines the built-in stain protection of SmartStrand with a silkier texture underfoot. A popular choice for bedrooms.

Carpet Remnants Available In-Store
We keep a selection of in-stock carpet remnants at our New Cumberland showroom. Remnants are leftover pieces from larger rolls, sold at reduced prices. They are a practical option for smaller rooms, staircases, closets, and offices where you do not need a full roll.
We also offer carpet binding locally for a clean, finished edge that turns a remnant into a custom-sized area rug or a neat stair runner. Ask us about current remnant availability when you stop in.
